This isn't the kind of Italian restaurant where everything comes out of a giant pot of sauce. Colao's opened in1999, and today it's still a family operation, Saverio "Cee" Colao with his wife Ellen and their children involved in the restaurant. A lot of the recipes are based on family traditions, and that connection comes through the menu that has plenty of familiar comfort food—spaghetti and meatballs, four-cheese ravioli, chicken or veal Parmigiana, carbonara, Bolognese—but there are also dishes that make the kitchen a little more interesting. The scallops with basil-pesto risotto (which I had... And was superb), crab spaghettini, butternut squash ravioli with sage and brown butter, salmon piccata and bone-in ribeye all show that they're not afraid to go beyond the basics. What I really liked about Colao's, though, is the atmosphere. It's in an old house, which gives the restaurant a cozy, almost neighborhood-European feel. It's intimate, and the staff is super friendly.

Best Italian Restaurant in Erie! No other place compares. The food is delicious and well made. The service and hospitality is top notch. Every visit fills me with joy and mirth. Even their mock cocktails are delicious, for those that are passing on wine/alcohol. Definitely recommend making a reservation, but bar seating is sometimes available if you walk in.

My aunt had a wedding celebration dinner here. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was warm and intimate. I have been here twice and it is so nice to have wait staff that is excited to talk about the menu and go above and beyond for you to have a great experience; even better, the food is delicious. I highly recommend the Scallops Amatriciana.

First time here and it won't be our last ! Everything was excellent. We did have a reservation which I highly recommend . To walk in here and smell all that delicious food and be turned away would be soooo disappointing! MAKE A RESERVATION! You won't be disappointed. ❤️

Shout out to this local gem! We patronized this establishment on Friday! The food and drinks are delicious, consistent and the atmosphere, owners and staff are amazing! We frequent her often enough to know that it can fill up quickly, so we make sure we call them early enough, to guarantee our reservation. The libations are unique, delicious and well crafted. The bartender is warm and engaging and owners while not tending to business matters, make it a point to get around to greet and say hello to their customers. There is always a smile to go with your delicious meal! I can’t say enough good things about Colao’s, but to say, if you’re going to be in the area to make sure you stop in. Please don’t forget to call!!! It is a busy establishment for good reason and they only take reservations by phone.
